"For Joel" - Blogger's Quilt Festival

I am participating in the Blogger's Quilt Festival.

"For Joel"  is the quilt I am featuring.

IMAG0010-1

The son of a very close friend sustained a traumatic brain injury that resulted from a one-car accident, almost two years ago.  He had to have round-the-clock care and substantial assistance for all of his needs.

After over a year of hospitalization from intensive care units, to rehabilitation facilities, he was able to go home.  His mother is a phenomenal nurse and contributed to his care daily, but in order to care for him at home his mother's house needed some accessibility upgrades.  A few months ago, the local county hospital, where his mom works, organized a fund-raiser to ease the burden of these costs.  My contribution was this quilt, which I named "For Joel".  It was auctioned off and 100% of the money went to my friend.

This quilt was made entirely form the scraps from one of my favorite fabric lines called Cherish Nature by  Deb Strain for Moda.  (My first-ever beginner quilt was made with this fabric.)

Stats:
Finished Quilt Measures:  52" x 52"
Special Techniques Used:  I made one large Ohio Star Block by calculating the individual pieces using the BlockFab App for my iPad and iPhone.
Quilted By:  Me.  I used a combination of straight-line quilting and stippling.
Category:  Favorite Throw Quilt

  4. Beautiful quilt and how wonderful for your friend to have such support and friends! (Our 22 yr old son, when he was 14 went through chemo for cancer and it was definitely a blessing to have those around us, such as you are for your friend. Our son is strong, healthy and a blessing, his heart full for others going through challenging times and still speaks at various events to raise support and awareness for kids with cancer. We are very thankful that this challenging time is behind us and that he is such a strong witness to what the Lord has brought him through).
